The islands around Zanzibar remain relatively unspoilt, brimful of interesting things to see and do and luxurious places to stay.
- Snorkel or Dive some of Africa's best reefs
- Visit the tortoises on Prison Island
- Wander haunting ancient ruins & empty beaches
- Travel by Dhow between the islands
- Enjoy the sun from the comfort of your beach lounger
The biggest island of the Zanzibar archipelago tends to get all the attention. Which in many ways is a good thing, because it leaves Zanzibar's satellite islands relatively unspoilt and exclusive. From the large
Pemba Island with its three towns and ancient moss and root covered ruins, to the small
Changuu Island and its tortoises, there is a wealth of things to keep you entertained! Scuba dive on untouched reefs near
Mnemba Island and snorkel the reefs of
Bawe Island, just 6km from Stone Town. If coral gardens aren't your thing, some of the surrounding islands feature unique forests, including
Chumbe Island's rare coral rag forest. Spot the elusive suni antelope wandering the shadowy interior, or simply head to the pristine white sandy beaches, a feature of all islands in these parts.
NB: Getting to the Satellite Islands usually involves a charter flight from Stone Town though some of them can be reached on a dhow trip! Speak to our consultants who will plan your journey here.
