An outline of the weather in Vic Falls

Victoria Falls makes a fantastic year round destination. Its location in the northern part of Southern Africa means that it experiences mild winters and therefore it comes as no surprise that this natural wonder is included in our itineraries on a year round basis.

Summer is from around October to April, during which it gets quite hot - to around 30°C, while night temperatures drop to around 14°C. Thunderstorms may occur in the late afternoon. The rainy season is from November to March.

Winter is roughly from May to September/October. The days are generally dry and sunny - around 20°C, with the temperature falling at night when it can get as cold as 5ºC.

How the weather affects your stay

The summer months from October to April are generally hotter and more muggy. You can expect short sharp afternoon thunderstorms and rain clouds gather throughout the day which in turn give rise to some excellent sunsets. It's at this time of year that you can enjoy the swimming pool at your hotel and will feel that you are in Africa.

The winter months are characterised by long sunny days, the temperatures drop at night and you'll be grateful for a warm jersey, hat and scarf. Don't expect to be able to use the hotel swimming pool unless you have a particularly strong ability to withstand the cold. As a general rule the water levels on the Zambezi are so high in April that the River Rafting is closed for the month, although this is seasonal and it's best to check with your Rhino Africa Consultant.

Winter time brings with it great game viewing in the Victoria Falls Area. The lack of rain means that the animals are forced to congregate around the water and large herds of elephant and buffalo come down to the Zambezi to drink. Game viewing at Matetsi and Chobe is particularly good at this time of year.
