Uganda is located in the heart of Africa. It forms an East African Community with
Kenya and
Tanzania, though it is pretty much in the heart of the continent bordering the Democratic Republic of Congo to the south,
Rwanda to the west and Sudan in the north. There are direct flights to
Entebbe Airport (just outside Kampala) from Kenya (Nairobi), Tanzania (Dar es Salaam/Arusha), South Africa (Johannesburg), Ethiopia (Addis Ababa), Egypt (Cairo), Belgium (Brussels), Holland (Amsterdam) UK (London Gatwick), UAE (Dubai).
Coming from overseas, one can thus also fly to
Nairobi or
Dar-es-Salaam and catch a daily scheduled departure to Entebbe.
It is relatively small by African standards (though still the size of Great Britain) so travelling distances are not great and it is possible to get from one side of the country to another in a day. Public transport such as buses and taxis are notoriously unreliable, and you could hire a car but the roads are rough, especially in wet season. It is far better to take an internal flight to the various destinations, since many of them are difficult to reach by road, such as the mountains and reserves for primate viewing. It is very wet in the south from April to May and again from October to November therefore we advise against travel during these months. The north is wet from April to October but it is largely off the tourist track.
