Mbalageti Serengeti is located in the Western Corridor of the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. Mbalageti is a relatively new lodge, but its inception and the building process were so painstaking that it is nothing short of a labour of love for the owners. The lodge even has a swimming pool completely built out of natural local rock.
The lodge is named after the Mbalageti River and is built on the Mwayeni Hill. Off the beaten track and completely natural, Mbalageti has 3 types of room, each appropriate in their own way. The standard rooms have a simple small veranda and en-suite bathrooms. There are a total of 24 tented chalets, built either side of the hill. They are constructed of local rock, wood and are canvas fitted. They have a large thatch roof which acts like a small lounge area and provides coolness and shade from the heat of the day. Each of the Mbalageti’s tented chalets has an en-suite bathroom and Victorian bath.
If you are looking for something even more luxurious, then you could even opt for their two presidential suites. Each of which has 2 bedrooms, and a large lounge area. These are the ultimate in luxury and deserving of a special occasion - or simply because you deserve it.
Painstakingly built on the Mwayeni Hill in the Western Corridor of the Serengeti, Mbalageti has fantastic views across the teeming grass plains. The rooms are built of local materials and with strong conservation ethics.

History of Mbalageti Lodge
Building projects are at the best of times hard work. The story of how Mbalageti got built could be the script of a Hollywood Movie! The owners decided early on that they wanted to build a lodge ‘off the beaten track’, so that they could offer their guests a unique Safari Experience. They found a suitable spot on the Simiti Hills; however this area had absolutely no infrastructure. The Serengeti’s black cotton soil of the Dutwa Plains meant that the trucks were often stuck up to their chassis, for up to 15 days.
In true Indiana Jones style they then had to cross the Mbalageti River. This often meant unloading the trucks, and reloading them. No wonder the owners, have used local materials as much as possible, but seasonal availability really slowed the building process down. No guest who visits Mbalageti can fail to be impressed by this beautiful part of paradise that is perched high above the Serengeti. A safari lodge of note!
