Arusha and Moshi are the two closest towns to Mount Kilimanjaro so they will be your base points for exploring this magical mountain. Moshi stands on the southern slopes and there are a number of accommodation options in and around the picturesque town. Arusha is much larger and lies 70km to the west with a greater selection of hotels, lodges and camps to suit your every need.
Marangu, a small village about half an hour's drive east of Moshi, is also a popular place to stay as it is more secluded and scenic. It is also the starting point for those who want to summit the mountain and lies just 7km from the National Park entrance gate.
