Baines Camp Information

Baines Camp is set amongst the shady trees and water of the Okavango Delta. This small and intimate lodge features just five luxurious suites set on elevated platforms in the tree line. Wooden decks offer expansive views over the permanent water of the Boro River and a lagoon teeming with life. The elevated suites feature a spacious bedroom, with softly draped fabrics adding the romantic touch of a bygone era. The four-poster beds are fully mobile, giving guests the choice of slumber under star laden skies. Avid astronomers will delight in stargazing from the privacy of their own deck.

Baines Camp is situated on a private concession neighbouring the Moremi, it is superb for viewing all animal and bird species. Guests may explore by land and water, often into the night to discover nocturnal species. The permanent water of the camp reveal a world of floating safaris, atmospherically silent at the gentle pace of a poled mokoro, or faster in a comfortable shaded motorboat. A network of waterways, feathery beds of papyrus, and animal species, large and small, are waiting to be discovered. Sometimes there is no better way to tune into the bush than on foot, and walking safaris are a speciality at Baines, with skilled, armed guides introducing the area’s natural wonders.

Baines Camp : Balloon Safaris

Baines Camp and its sister camp Stanley's Camp are the only camps in the Okavango where you can go hot air ballooning! An opportunity to photograph the Delta from low level is very unique. The activity is an extra activity which we recommend booking beforehand. When you go Ballooning you are woken up early in the morning and driven to the launch site.

You are treated to early morning tea and coffee while you watch the Balloon being inflated. The balloon takes a maximum of 8 passengers and 2 crew. The pilots fly between 500 ft and 1500ft and fly in a northwesterly direction for about 1 hour. Landings can be a bit bumpy. To celebrate a successful flight, a light champagne breakfast is served before you are driven back to Baines Camp.

Baines Camp is accessible by small aircraft and the lodge has its own airstrip. Rhino Africa can organise charter flights on your behalf. Flights can be arranged from other lodges or from Maun and Kasane Airports. The major gateways in this area are Victoria Falls Airport, Livingstone Airport and Maun.
