Tourism is the fast growing of the four key industries in Namibia, the others being mining, fishing and agriculture and being based on the country’s natural assets, is closely linked to conservation. Namibia is the only country in the world to specifically address conservation and the protection of natural resources in their constitution. From a tourism perspective Namibia is politically stable and the government places great emphasis on ensuring that the mechanisms of tourism are well oiled ! Federation of Namibian Tourism Associations (FENATA) is the umbrella organization for tourism bodies in the private sector. The Namibia Tourism Board controls the grading and standard of accommodation establishments, safari companies and products offered by tour operators. No where is the Namibian governments commitment to service excellence, more evident, in that the Tourism Grading Council, threatened to shut down the Government run Namibia Wildlife Resorts of
Okaukeujo,
Halali and
Namatoni, because of bad service and standards. The governments has subsequently injected a huge amount of money into upgrading these 3 establishments!
