Okapuka Ranch 30 minutes outside Windhoek

It's convenient, comfortable, and a rather good safari primer en route to the riches of northern Namibia. Okapuka Ranch, 30km north of Windhoek, is one of a number of private Windhoek wildlife reserves around Windhoek and it stands head and antlers above the rest.

Okapuka Ranch has 20 rooms, built of local stone and topped with thatched roofs. The décor is also local. Murals by a local artist adorn the walls and Namibian karakul wool carpets soften the tiled floors. Each has an en suite bathroom, a private patio, a mini bar, and complimentary tea and coffee.The main lodge is a large open-sided lapa – the traditional living area in Namibia – with a restaurant, wine cellar, swimming pool, and a landscaped garden. Activities include wine tasting, game drives, bush walks, scenic drives, lion-feeding, birding, off-road adventure, and helicopter flights.

Okapuka Ranch is about 30km north of Windhoek in Namibia. The private reserve is about 14,000ha of rolling hills, impressive acacia trees, and bleached blonde grasses and it supports good numbers of Namibian wildlife. Species include white rhino, the majestic eland, the gracious roan, giraffe, zebra, lion, wildebeest, and several smaller species of antelope and plains game.So you can be on a safari within an hour of clearing customs at Windhoek's international airport.
