Burning Shores exclusive hotelThe Burning Shores is the Swakopmund hotel that shot to fame when the Jolie-Pitt phenomenon chose it for their three-month pre-natal escape to Namibia. And what a choice for escape. Set halfway between the towns of Swakopmund and Walvis Bay – themselves fairly remote – the Burning Shore is backed by a gazillion tonnes of sand, in the form of some picturesque dunes, and fronted by a gazillion litres of Atlantic Ocean, which in turn forms a rather picturesque sunset. The hotel has seven rooms and five suites; all face the sea and have luxurious bathrooms and comfortable furnishings. The main living area has an ornate cocktail bar; a lounge with a fireplace and a lavish dining room. Like the rooms, the sea and that burning sunset is a central feature of the view. You have direct access to a private beach and a private Jacuzzi if you fear the effects of a dip in the icy Atlantic Ocean. |

Cape Cross Lodge
About 120km north of the Swakopmund, and the last vestiges of civilisation along the Skeleton Coast, and aeons away from the desolation that surrounds it, stands Cape Cross Lodge - a small and comfortable hotel that looks like sprawling home in suburban Orlando.
