About the The Desert HomesteadThe Desert Homestead is situated south of Sesriem in an idyllic setting and a good location from which to visit the sand dunes at Sossusvlei. The main central lounge and dining area is in the old farmhouse, although meals are often served on the veranda. The Desert Homestead horse trails offer a magical experience, allowing guests to explore the surrounding grassy plains and ancient watercourses. Or you may prefer the more simple pleasures of relaxing by the pool or in your room, perhaps eating a light lunch in the coffee shop. Sunset can be a humbling experience at the Desert Homestead, as the days last rays of sun bathe the rugged landscape in pastel hues. Whether you choose to watch from the Homestead, from horseback or with a sundowner from the viewpoint, you will be able to sample the farm fresh cuisine in the evening by either dining at the farm house or cooking prepared braai packs outside your chalet. The Desert Homestead offers sixteen rustic chalets, all built from local rock and blending in with the environment. Inside they provide luxury, with large single or double beds and en-suite bathroom with shower and toilet. The mosquito nets render a cosy alcove feeling. The lights and fans in the guest accommodation is powered by a bank of batteries, which are charged by wind and solar power during daytime. All the guest amenities (soaps, shampoo, body lotion etc.) are environmentally friendly.Twelve of the chalets at the Desert Homestead have two single beds each. Four chalets are family units with four beds. |
