With friendly and efficient service governing its every action, Sossusvlei Lodge is a perennial winner of local hospitality awards. And, being on a 43-000ha private reserve and the closest lodge to the entrance of Sossusvlei, it's got the location award secured for life. Sossusvlei Lodge has 43 chalets spread out along the view over the waterhole.

The rooms have adobe walls, tiled floors and an elegant stretched-canvas roof; the en suite bathrooms at the back has a flat roofs from which you can enjoy the beautiful desert scenery and sunset. The living area is a labyrinth of rooms and spaces variously dedicated to relaxation, enjoyment, or a hearty good feed. The large pool, bar, and terrace look out over the waterhole as do the dining rooms and, as is its want, the observation tower.

Sossusvlei Lodge: the Namib Desert and Sossusvlei

You'll be as close as you can get to the entrance of Sossusvlei and the great sand sea that surrounds it. That gives you an extra half an hour's lie-in on any of the other lodges in the area because the gates open at sunrise. In addition to the mandatory visit to the dunes, Sossusvlei Lodge offers many activities on its private reserve of 43,000ha and all of them have a strong eco-friendly ethos. The adventure centre at the lodge will arrange and co-ordinate all your activities with the same enthusiastic efficiency as the rest of the staff at the lodge.
