Relax at the Le Mirage Desert Lodge and SpaLe Mirage Desert Lodge and Spa is built in the middle of the oldest desert in the world. Put the bullish exterior of the lodge to one side for a bit and you've got a really rather luxurious hotel, with few rooms and plenty of space, in a beautiful desert setting. The North African theme is a constant refrain throughout the voluminous lodge: the rooms have Gothic arches and are darkened by rich drapes, stone floors, and dark ruby-red walls. The breeze wafts in and out of courtyards, archways, and the open-sided restaurant to create an airy feeling of wellness, escape, and opulence.The hotel's courtyard, spread with a deep covering of grass, has a large pool and a Jacuzzi; the spa peeps out over the desert; and there are several slightly more rigorous pursuits on offer – not least of which is a hot air balloon flight over the dunes of Sossusvlei. |
