Purros Camp in Kaokoland Namibia

Purros Camp is part of a multi-day fly-in safari that includes Kuidas Camp and Kunene Camp .About half way between the other two camps, Purros is deep in the Kaokoland wilderness. The camp is built on the edge of the dry Hoarusib River and shaded by beautiful acacia trees. Like the other two camps, accommodation treads lightly on the delicate ecosystem with reed huts housing dome tents; each tent is simply furnished with twin beds, en suite bucket showers with hot water, wash basins, and a chemical toilet that supplements the shared bathrooms in the living area.

The main living area at Purros Camp looks out over the river valley. A small dining area and bar opens onto the campfire perfect for drifting off into the warm starlit nights. Purros Camp is reserved exclusively for individual groups in a fly-in safari and can accommodate up to eight guests at a time. The kitchen prepares wholesome food with fresh ingredients and the camp has a good stock of imported wines

Lodge Highlights

  • Comfortably appointed dome tents with hot bucket showers and eco-friendly toilets
  • Lounge, bar, and dining area overlooking the river valley
  • Open campfire
  • Fresh food and good wine
  • Himba nomads, desert-adapted wildlife, bird watching, scenic drives, and nature walks

Purros Camp – experience Kaokoland, Namibia's wild frontier

Purros Camp is in a remote location in the centre of Kaokoland, 20km from a town that is seldom on any map. The scenery is from another planet with vast pancake-flat valleys giving rise to fearsome jagged mountain ranges; strange plants appear to thrive on nothing more than the rocks from which they grow; incongruous elephants, rhino, and gazelles wonder hither and thither; and the people – what few of them actually live here – are cover themselves in an ochre balm and dress in leather thongs.
