Deep into the Kaokoland, surrounded by aeons of wilderness, the Okahirongo Lodge basks in its secluded eco-chic glory. Built from adobe and stained a deep ochre, the seven en suite rooms look out over the Hoarusib River. The bathrooms have enormous circular tubs with a view, a separate shower, and an outdoor shower; dιcor is a sumptuous combination of earthy tones, rich colours and North African cool.
The living area has very few walls. Large landscape-shaped sides frame the spectacular view and everywhere you look, great attention has been given to the details. Collectable artworks add a subtle rhythm to the almost monochromatic earthiness and the mood is pure shoeless, flowing cotton escape. The private conservancy, dramatic in its scenery, supports a variety of specialised and highly evolved species of plants and animals to be discovered in between dreams and the slow drifting of time.
The stuff of glamorous architecture photo shoots, Okahirongo clings to the side of a mountain on the edge of civilisation like a wealthy escapist's dream. Seven adobe chalets sumptuous in size and luxury look out over the spectacular Kaokoland vista with wide-windowed wonder.
