Kunene Camp in Northern Namibia

Kunene Camp is at the end of the world. Or so it will seem after your flight over the Skeleton Coast and the Namib Desert followed by a scenic drive through Hartmann Valley to the Kunene River on the Angolan border. Kunene Camp is a rustic private camp with essential comforts and a spectacular setting beside the river that is lined with ancient albida trees, papyrus, and makalani palm trees completely at odds with sun-baked aridity of the surrounding landscapes.

Accommodation consists of four reed enclosures each with a dome tent, twin beds, a bucket shower at the back, and a small balcony in the front. The living area has a communal bathroom – rooms have chemical toilets – and an open-sided dining area that looks out over the river. Food is made with fresh ingredients and accompanied by good imported wine; breakfast and lunch are cold buffets and set menu dinners are served beneath the stars.

Lodge Highlights

  • Comfortably appointed dome tents with hot bucket showers and eco-friendly toilets
  • Lounge, bar, and dining area overlooking the river
  • Fresh Food and good wines
  • Desert excursions, bird watching, nature walks, stargazing
  • Land of the Himba – traditional semi-nomadic pastoralists

Kunene Camp: rustic exclusivity in the middle of Damaraland and the Skeleton Coast

Part of a multi-day fly-in safari that includes Purros Camp and Kuidas Camps , Kunene Camp is on the Kunene River in the extreme north of Kaokoland on the border with Angola. The desert surrounds you and the forest that lines the perennial Kunene River comes as a startling surprise after your journey here. Activities include exploring the dunes, mountains, and valleys of Kaokoland, boating up and down the river, and visiting Himba villages; and Kunene River is a birdwatching hotspot in Namibia.
