Cañon Roadhouse near the Fish River CanyonA tongue-and-cheek name for although it is geared towards the stopover traveller, this is not your typical American roadhouse on the edge of a lonely highway. In a private reserve, the Cañon Roadhouse Lodge is situated 18km off the C12 – a quiet shortcut to Lüderitz and the Namib-Naukluft Park – and 20km from the Fish River Canyon's main viewpoint. Having made it off the beaten track to Cañon Roadhouse you'll be relieved to find a small, comfortable, and cheery hotel. Nine rooms, all done in bright colours, line a courtyard and a delightful outdoor dining area. A small campsite in the dry riverbed is shaded by acacia trees. The hotel serves hearty meals – on the terrace or in the colourful restaurant - with fresh ingredients grown at the property's self-sufficiency centre; the themed bar is a lively hub of conviviality; the swimming pool is as essential as the filling station and information centre. |
