Okonjima Main and Bush Camp

Okonjima Main and Bush Camp near Etosha

Okonjima lies in the Omboroko Mountains which form part of the Waterberg Plateau in Namibia. The main attraction of the lodge is the leopard and cheetah that are resident on the farm. Okonjima is home to the Africat Foundation which is dedicated to preserving the big cats of Namibia, at Okonjima special emphasis is placed on cheetah and leopard.

Okonjima consists of the Main lodge which has ten luxury en-suite double rooms and a secluded swimming pool surrounded by beautiful gardens where a variety of birds and animals may be encountered.  The Luxury Bush Camp only has a total of 8 chalets. Built separately and far apart these rooms have been designed with a distinct African feel. The canvas sided rooms open up on most sides giving you a panoramic view of the bush with no barriers The camp is also home to a swimming pool , lounge area and dining area.

Okonjima : The AfriCat Foundation

Namibia is home to six large carnivores species including cheetahs, leopards, lions, spotted hyaenas, brown hyaenas and wild dogs. The majority of these species are in conflict with people as Namibia is largely a livestock farming community. The Africat Foundation was founded in 1992 to promote large carnivore conservation and animal welfare. The initial years were spent rescuing cheetahs and leopards from traps and housing orphaned cheetahs and leopards.

The sanctuary consists of approximately 500 hectares (1250 acres) fenced off enclosures where they house over 70 cheetahs, 6 lions, 5 leopards and 4 caracals. Wild leopards are fed every night - giving guests a chance to watch these magnificent predators from the safety of a hide. Viewing of leopards is not guaranteed, and leopards are radio-collared for monitoring purposes. Cheetah tracking and viewing: cheetah radio tracking is done by foot in a rehabilitation area. Orphaned cheetah viewing is included in the daily activities. Okonjima and Africat has recently become more well known as it recently started in its own National Geographic Documentary.
