Namutoni in Etosha National ParkNot since 1904, when the original building was restored after being burned to the ground, has the old fort at Namutoni seen such action. A total refurbishment, undertaken by Namibia Wildlife Resorts, is under way and the plans are big. Namutoni is on the eastern edge of Etosha pan and near the Von Lindequist Gate. Like the other two camps inside the park – Okaukuejo and Halali – Namutoni overlooks a floodlit waterhole. Unlike the other two camps, Namutoni is built around a restored fort, which is to become the social centre of the new lodge with restaurants, a bar and lounge, and a game viewing deck. Accommodation consists of en suite chalets and air conditioning is provided in each of the 44 units. The main complex houses the restaurants, bar, curio shop, jewellers, bookstore, and all-important swimming pool. |
