Erongo Wilderness Lodge has such a sublime setting, surrounded by enormous granite outcrops, mountains and the desert way down below, you need little more than a hammock and a piece of shade to be at complete peace. But the folks at Erongo Wilderness Lodge went a few steps further and have created an African fantasy. Surrounded by the Erongo Mountains the lodge features ten chalets perched precariously on stilts above car-sized boulders.

The chalets at Erongo Wilderness Lodge have canvas walls, thatched roofs and outdoor showers; inside are two enormous beds, bright colours and - brides-to-be take note - all the romance in the world. The main living area is on another granite outcrop and looks out over the valley; its dining area, luxurious lounge, veranda and pool overlook a popular watering hole.

Erongo Wilderness Lodge: a private wilderness haven

Activities in the Erongo Mountain Nature Conservancy include walks, drives and excellent birding with your two locally-recruited guides. Optional extras include visits to rock painting sites and a number of activities in the delightful town of Omaruru. The lodge is one of the founding members of the Erongo Mountain Nature Conservancy: a group of 30 adjoining private farms that form a vast wilderness area of 200,000 hectares. The conservancy protects the habitats and ecosystem of many important endemic and rare species of flora and fauna.
