Damaraland Camp

Damaraland Camp Description

Surrounded by the surreal landscape of Damaraland and drenched in sunshine, Damaraland Camp, like the rest of Namibia, offers a unique and stimulating experience.  On the north bank of the Huab River Valley, the camp looks south over bleached blonde grass, clumps of wild-mustard bush and acacia thickets towards the Brandberg Massif – a multi-hued throwback from the days of volcanoes and dinosaurs.

Damaraland Camp's ten tented rooms form a salute to the setting sun and the Brandberg's changing moods; inside is an ode to a good night's rest. The walk-in tents have en suite bathrooms with hot running water; twin or double beds; coffee stations and a paved patio.  The main camp is tiled and thatched with reed sides and a welcoming air of cool relaxation. Next to the pool is a much-used bar and on clear evenings the campfire and al fresco dinner is unmissable.

Damaraland Camp: wild, rugged and fascinating

Your guided walks, drives and mountain bike trails will lead you through age-old geological formations, ancient rock art, beguiling plants and maybe an elephant or two. Desert-adapted animals you might encounter are elephants, gemsbok, springbok, pure-bred ostriches, kudu, Hartman's mountain zebra and, if you're lucky, the world's last free-ranging black rhino. Birding is also spectacular and Rüpell's korhaan, Monteiro's hornbill, white-tailed shrike, Herero chat and white-backed mousebird are some of the Namibia specials you will find in the area.

  • Ten walk-in tented rooms
  • En suite bathrooms with hot water and flushing toilets
  • Patio overlooking the valley and mountains
  • Cool thatch, timber and stone living area
  • Swimming pool and bar
  • Outdoor dining and evening campfire
  • Curio shop
  • Laundry service
