Formerly Lourenco Marques, Maputo is an exciting African city filled with dashes of portuguese flair, the smell of chilli and the sea as well as a friendly people always willing to smile.

  • Fiera Popular a complex with over 30 pubs & restaurants

  • Mercado Xipamanine, the market where you can buy anything

  • Watch dhows sail into the sunset from your balcony

  • Go snorkelling, diving, swimming or just catch a tan

  • Kick back, relax and have a well-deserved holiday!

A Melting Pot of Culture

With its subtropical cimate, beautiful sheltered bay and blend of Portuguese architecture, African spontaneity and Indo/Portuguese/African cuisine, Maputo has retained much of its colonial mystique. Here nightclubs swing to samba rhythms till the break of dawn and a host of kiosks serve piri-piri chicken barbecued on the spot, matapas, fried potato chips and piping hot prawns. Hundreds of sidewalk cafes, dozens of nightclubs and a few sleazy strip joints complement the vibrant atmosphere of this capital city that feels more Latin American than African.

Modelled on Portuguese harbour cities such as Lisbon, Maputo features wide tree lined avenues with stone mosiac sidewalks. Magnifiscent architectural gems rise up alongside horrendous apartment blocks, where a goat tied up on the balcony is considered a common site. A hodge podge of the beautiful, the quaint, the old, the new, the poor and the rich, a mixture of cultures, of times and of religions. Maputo is a veritable melting pot and your experience here will always be a rich and rewarding one.

And out in Maputo Bay lies the small Inhaca island. The island is a secure and quiet location that is a port of call for yachts, sailing boats and cruise ships seeking out a tropical option in the turquoise and crystal clear waters of the Indian Ocean.
