You will be picked up from the hotel of your choice and transferred to
Pamplemousses, the botanical gardens famous for its massive water hyacinth, one of Mauritius' attractions. Then you head to
Port Louis, the capital and principal port on the west coast of the island. A charming town with French colonial buildings, an Anglican and Catholic cathredal and colourful streets, Port Louis really does ooze character! Barter with the locals at the bustling market for Creole delicacies and souvenirs.
Shopping fanatics will be delighted with the visit to
Miraj, where goods can be purchased at duty-free rates.
Le Caudan Waterfront is also a haven for shoppers, with a variety of franchises and stalls selling souvenirs and local crafts. Round off your sightseeing tour at the
Blue Penny Stamp Museum, with a collection that includes the 1847 Blue Penny and Red Penny stamps, famously purchased for €600,000 by a Mauritian consortium. Only 240 of these stamps were issued in 1847 with the engraving 'Post Office' not 'Post Paid'.
You will be transferred back to your hotel in time for lunch, and an afternoon relaxing on the beautiful beach.
