What you need to know about one of the most beautiful and remote parts of Botswana where time stops and wildlife wonders continue uninterrupted!
Seeing as it is one of the remote places in the world, we recommend you come to Makgadikgadi prepared because the nearest signs of civilization are a veritable mile away! All the lodges we have advertised in this section organise all activities and provide all meals so all you have to bring are clothes and personal luxuries. Take note of the different weather patterns within the region and these will affect the game viewing as well as the comfort of your trip!
Most people who visit Makgadikgadi combine it with a visit to
Chobe National Park or the
Okavango Delta or even
Victoria Falls. At Rhino Africa we specialize in tailormaking African safaris, in close collaboration with you we will create your perfect African getaway.

The ClimateMakgadikgadi is extremely hot during the summer from October to May. However, this is also the rainy season so thunderstorms and showers may provide a brief respite from the searing heat. The humidity is also usually quite high at this time of year. The winter months (June to September) are much more temperate with warm days but the nights can be particularly cold and temperatures can drop below freezing. In October, there can be windstorms and the area can become very dusty. We recommend visiting between April and July as temperatures are bearable and game viewing is great!
Game Viewing In the winter months, game often migrates from the Okavango Delta down to the Makgadikgadi Pans. Thus wildlife viewing is usually best from April to July when a vast array of animals visit the water holes. Plus roads can become impassable during the wet season (December - March) so again we recommend you plan your trip during the winter!
Safaris and ToursAll the lodges listed in our accommodation section organise tours and safaris of the region. You will be transported by 4x4 to visit the various pans in the region, go on game drives and spot animals at the water holes. For the more adventurous, there are horseback safaris and quad-bike rides while sailing and canoeing can be organised when there is enough water on the pans.
We have visited all these properties and some of our consultants have worked in this region so they have a wealth of experience.
