Day 1: Quarters Hotel, Durban
You will pick up your hire car from the airport and make your way to the Quarters Hotel. If you would rather, a transfer can be arranged and the car will be delivered instead. A classy establishment in the heart of Durban, Quarters Hotel is close to restaurants, bars, shopping centres and the Golden Mile beachfront. You have the afternoon and evening at your leisure to explore Africa's biggest and busiest port before wining and dining the evening away.

Day 2-4: Cleopatra Mountain Farmhouse, Drakensberg
After a sumptuous breakfast, you head out of Durban inland along the
Midlands Meander - this is a scenic drive that takes you through rolling hills and lush countryside en route to the Drakensberg. If you don't mind the extra drive, head up to
Sani Pass (3000m) and have a beer at the highest bar in Africa.
You check into
Cleopatra Mountain Farmhouse, an exceptional retreat at the base of the Drakensberg Mountains. A rustic lodge which combines comfort and luxury with the great outdoors. You have a few days at leisure to enjoy the stunning views, go hiking, climbing, horseriding and view historic San rock art in caves and caverns.

Day 4-5: Three Tree Hill Lodge, Battlefields
After breakfast, you leave behind South Africa's highest mountains and head northeast towards the famous Battlefields region. Although peaceful now, this region was the site of much battle and bloodshed, conflict and conquest between the British, Boers and Zulus. You will check into Three Tree Hill Lodge, in the heart of the
Spionkop Battlefield where the Boers resisted the English advances from atop Spionkop Hill. Go on a guided tour of the region which brings this famous battle to life.

Day 5-7: Fugitives Drift Guest House, Battlefields
Your fascinating exploration continues as you head north to visit the famous battlefields of the 1879 Anglo Zulu War. Wander the sites of
Isandlwana and
Rorke's Drift - it was here that the British Army suffered their biggest defeat and then their biggest victory in the course of one day. Survivors from Isandlwana crossed the Buffalo River at a place which came to be named
"Fugitives Drift" - and this is exactly where your accommodation is located. Visit both battle sites and relive these epic conquests in colourful detail with an expert guide -

Day 7-10: Phinda Mountain Lodge, Phinda Game Reserve
You leave the Battlefields, with a wealth of history and conflict behind you and head eastwards to
