Fly into Durban, hop a charter flight to the North Coast or Safari Lodges - or self-drive your way to the Drakensberg and back. The choice is yours.
Most visitors to Kwazulu Natal will usually fly into Durban. The airport is serviced by most international airlines so you can fly here direct from home. And there are daily scheduled flights from Cape Town as well as Johannesburg. The airport is about 20 minutes south of the city centre and Rhino Africa can organise all your transfers.
The airport also acts as a hub for charter flights if you travel to one of the luxury lodges in the north. There are airports near the St Lucia Wetlands and the Game Reserves of Umfolozi Hluhluwe and Phinda. Some of the lodges along the north coast are pretty remote and it is advisable to take a charter flight and then a road transfer.
Richards Bay is a considerably smaller airport north of Durban but it is ideal for guests travelling to the
North Coast or on
Safari. There are daily flights from Johannesburg Airport and charter flights to the more far-flung lodges. Richards Bay is also within driving distance of most game reserves and beach destinations.
To really appreciate the beauty and extent of Kwazulu Natal then we highly recommend hiring a car. The roads are reasonably signposted and the area is covered by a comprehensive cellphone network. This allows you to see and experience South Africa in a way that tour buses and guided trips don’t. You can self-drive your way along the coast, fit in a Safari, head to the
Drakensberg along the Midlands Meander, explore the
Battlefields and more!
