Hilltop Camp

Hilltop Camp | Information

Catering for both budget and luxury travellers, Hilltop Camp is the main camp in the Hluhluwe National Park, a big five destination. Accommodation is in 2 or 4 bed chalets, which are comfortably furnished and feature African decor. The camps commanding position at the summit of a hill in the Park provides not only a great launching spot for game drives, but the elevated position also shelters the camp from some of the hotter weather, which affects much of the park. Something you will much apprecaite in the midday heat, between your morning and afternoon game drive is the cooling breeze wafting across the camp and the excellent swimming pool from which you will be reluctant to leave. The individual chalets as well as variety of bedding options including self catering options make Hilltop Camp the perfect spot for family groups who require a diversity of options. There is an a la carte restaurant, an attractive pub and a relaxing lounge area.

Hluhluwe/Umfolozi Game Reserve

The Hluhluwe Umfolozi Park is today one of the finest game viewing destinations in the country, which is hardly surprising considering the history of the park. It has a history stretching back far into the past and was originally an area where King Shaka undertook his massive hunts and where he also practised a crude form of nature conservation by ruling that no one but him was allowed to hunt. At one point Hluhluwe was instrumental in saving the endangered black rhino from extinction in southern Africa, in fact if you see a black rhino in any other South African game park it is most likely that one could trace its family history to a Hluhluwe parent!
