Tucked away in the Kwazulu Natal Drakensberg Mountains and surrounded by the Giants Castle Nature Reserve is a country house that can only be described in terms of food. Thus a tasty retreat, a scrumptuous getaway and a delectable hideaway is Cleopatra Mountain Farmhouse. The owners of Cleopatra are knowledgeable foodies and are well established and renowned in the hospitality industry and their vision for Cleopatra is a place where luxury accommodation and food go hand in hand.

There are eleven individually and creatively decorated rooms, with each room having its own theme. The beds are warm and snug, the linen crisp and clean and the mohair blankets are the perfect touch on a cold winter night, as are the fireplaces! Situated on the edge of a dam, the smooth surface of which is occasionaly broken by the swirl of a surfacing trout, and framed by the majestic mountains rising ever upwards at the bottom of the well maintained garden. The dawn chorus, the sound of the river cascading over rocks and the quiet of the open spaces all hold wonderful opportunities to engage and soothe the mind. The sheer beauty of a landscape or the peace and tranquillity of a spot untarnished by people can be enough to restore equilibrium to any visitor. Wake up to the quiet of the country with the mountain mist rising silently knowing there is an unusual and exciting breakfast awaiting you.

Cook & Eat

Passion and patience goes into the preperation of every flavourful dish, with the menu changing daily and local as well as seasonal produce dictating much of the sumptous fare. Farm fresh dairy products, home cured hams and organically grown vegetables as well as a vast selection of herbs from the kitchen garden all go into preparing culinary masterpieces. Besides eating there are also a variety of activities that you can engage in such as; walking, hiking, cycling, swimming in mountain streams, trout fishing, bird watching, horse riding and excursions to local bushman paintings.
