Battlefield Tours

Fugitives’ Drift is renowned for its Battlefield Tours to all the Zulu War and Anglo-Boer War battle sites in the region. This legacy is owed to the late, popular historian David Rattray who had very significant exposure to Zulu oral tradition.

His lifelong study of Zulu culture and tradition and his charismatic personality entertained many audiences in South Africa and abroad. He addressed capacity audiences at the Royal Geographical Society in London on over 20 occasions by bringing to life the stories of fighting between British troops and Zulu warriors in the 19th century.

Luckily before his untimely passing he created a platform for his passion for local history to continue and his family is determined to maintain everything that David created. Lecturers and David Rattray prodigy’s, Rob Caskie and Joseph Ndima, are superb storytellers who continue to give the very high standard of lectures for which Fugitive’s Drift is renowned. The stories have delighted tourists for many years as well as providing them with a rare insight into the history and development of South Africa.

In Rob and Joseph's hands, the history of these times come alive and it’s an experience not to be missed and never forgotten.
