Since the various battlefields from the many wars are quite spread around, it's not that easy to reach each one. But our consultants will be able to tell you exactly how to get to the site, landmark and lodge of your choice!
Most travellers will fly into
Durban International Airport, which services most international destinations and has scheduled daily flights from
Cape Town and
Johannesburg. The closest airport to the main battlefields of
Isandlwana and
Rorkes drift is at Dundee about 70km away. However this airport can only handle small chartered aircraft. Most travellers will therefore self-drive to the battlefields, which isn't really a bad option as there is much to see and do along the route. The most direct route is along the N3 from Durban to Pietermaritzburg passing through Greytown and out towards Dundee. However you can also drive from the opposite side beginning in Johannesburg. Be sure not to miss the chance to see Ladysmith, the town made famous in one of the more protracted battles of the Anglo-Boer war known as 'The Siege of Ladysmith".
