The recently opened Rocktail Beach Camp situated in the coastal forest reserve has an African themed main dining area, chilled out lounge and fully stocked bar, all a few metres from the large pool and with a view of the sea. Accommodation is in 12 safari style tents, raised above the sandy dune soil and hidden amongst the thick coastal bush. They have been constructed so as to cause minimal damage to the pristine bush and far enough apart so that guests are afforded privacy in which to relax and unwind. Each ensuite tent is well equipped with a balcony from which you can view the sea, which is about 800 metres away through coastal forest and dunes.

The communal areas are perfect for guests with children or anyone wanting to socialize with like-minded fellow travellers. Comfortable couches a supply of board games, books and a barman at hand make for a comfortable place to spend the day or evening. Food is served on the adjoining covered terrace, fresh seafood and tasty buffet menu are the order of the day and deckchairs poolside provide a place to digest your meal helped by a dose of Kwazulu Natal sunshine.

Swim with Whales

Right next to Rocktail Beach Camp is the Rocktail Dive Centre. This fully equipped PADI accredited scuba diving centre is the definitive highlight of Rocktail Beach Camp. Activities on offer include boat based snorkeling and scuba diving on any one of the many reefs dotting this stretch of pristine coastline. Here one can learn to scuba dive, making use of Beach Camps pool for your beginners course and proceeding to more exciting waters over the course of five days.

Guests should not miss the chance to view migrating whales (in season) just of the coast and from only a few metres away in the dive centre boat. Your captain will drop you in the ocean in-front of a migrating pod and then it remains up to the whales whether they will approach you or not. So memorable is the experience when it happens that we advise you stay a few days and try it again and again until you strike it lucky!
