Durban

Durban International Airport does receive international flights but most international carriers arrive in Johannesburg or Cape Town. Most travellers then get a domestic flight to Durban Airport. The airport is about 20 minutes south of the centre of Durban and Rhino Africa organise transfers to and from the airport.   The airport also acts as a hub for charter flights if you travel to one of the luxury lodges in the north.

Richards Bay

Richards Bay is a considerably smaller airport but for guests travelling to the luxury lodges then this airport makes the perfect choice. Richards Bay has daily flights from Johannesburg Airport , the airport is small with nothing to do -  the highlight being the Coke Machine and a café who serve Jaffles and Tea! We highly recommending bringing a book to read.

Self Drive

To really appreciate the beauty and extent of Kwazulu Natal then we highly recommend hiring a car. The roads are reasonably signposted and the area is covered by a comprehensive cell phone network. Avoid driving at dark and exercise caution and respect when driving through rural communities. To travel and self drive allows you to see and experience aspects of South Africa  that tour buses and guided trips don’t visit. Stop for a cool drink , watch the children coming home after school, buy baskets and pots at the side of the road, read bill boards and get overtaken by fully laden minibus at 140km!

Fly In Safari

The lodges and reserves in the north of Kwazulu Natal make both a self drive destination and a fly in destination.  Charter flights fly from Durban and Richards Bay to the lodges, also consider combining a Phinda safari with a Kruger Park safari daily flights can be arranged between Phinda and Londolozi and Ngala. Discuss your requirements with your Rhino Africa consultant.
