Phinda Vlei Lodge Description

Phinda Vlei is a sophisticated blend of teak, timber, Eastern and African influences. Vlei Lodge offers discerning travellers an elegant lodge of understated luxury. It comprises of six thatched suites with en suite bathrooms, dressing rooms, very large private plunge pools and deck. Fringing Phinda’s unique vlei (wetland) system, this gracious safari lodge is a study of intimacy and integration with the African bush.

Watch the drama of South Africa’s wilderness unfold while relaxing in your large private plunge pool. Each suite is decorated in a subtle blend of North and West African styles with hints of Balinese influences overlooks the grassy vlei, where you’re likely to see a dazzling variety of wildlife including herds of zebra and grazing antelope. The atmosphere is exclusive and personal, a mixture of understated sophistication and sheer luxury. Phinda Vlei serves delicious Pan-African cuisine which is served to you on the game-viewing decks, or in a dramatic bush setting near the lodge. Phinda Vlei : Wildlife & Activities

There is so much for guests to do at Phinda, the list of activities is endless: twice-daily game- drives, nature walks, riverboat cruises and canoe trips along the Mzinene River are offered at no additional cost. Guests are also able to enjoy a variety of optional Safari Activities in or near the Indian Ocean, from scuba diving and deep-sea fishing to spectacular air safaris.

Phinda Private Game Reserve is home to an incredible diversity of mammals. Predators like cheetah, leopard and lion are tracked on a daily basis and visitors stand extremely good chances of seeing them. The territorial white rhino favour waterholes and wallows. Herds of elephant and buffalo move throughout the reserve and are easily spotted. An impressive 378 species of birds have have been recorded. Rudd’s apalis, Neergaard’s sunbird and pink-throated twinspot are endemic to the Maputaland region.

Phinda Private Game Reserve is located 3 hours drive north of Durban. The road is easily accessible by road. Phinda has its own airstrip and charter flights connect the lodge to Durban & Richards Bay Airports, flights can also be arranged between Phinda and the private lodges in the Sabi Sands and Kruger Region.
