Thornybush Shumbalala Lodge Description

Shumbalala Game Lodge is situated in the the heart of the 11000 hectare Thornybush Game Reserve adjoining the greater Kruger National Park. Shumbalala is the ultimate in luxury and service from arrival to departure. Accommodating a maximum of eight guests, exclusivity and personalised service are hall marks of this intimate camp. Sublime cuisine and walk-in underground wine celler compliment the informal atmosphere. Exciting dawn and dusk safaris, walks are also a must for the more adventurous. Mother nature herself had a hand in setting out the camp.

Nestled under magnificent trees on the bank of a river bed over looking an active water hole lie four suites and two superior suites with plunge pool. In addition to the game viewing decks and swimming pools, there are two lounges, a curio shop and a library in which to relax between game drives. In addition there is the two bed-roomed Presidential Suite which offers an opportunity to safari in ultimate luxury All the suites has overhead fans, air-conditioning, open fireplaces, and designer "picture window" bathroom suites that includes an additional outside shower for the more adventurous and a private viewing deck.

Twice daily game drives in open 4x4 game viewing safari vehicles and nature walks are the highlight of a stay at Shumbalala .The excellent game viewing experience is complimented by other activities such as stargazing, bird watching and moonlit bush dinners or sundowners. The Big Five, Cheetah, smaller game and birds of prey are encountered at close range.

The Leopard, considered by many to be the most prized sighting, are often encountered. The daily walk usually commences after breakfast. This is a fascinating activity as it allows you to observe the smaller animals that you would usually not see while out on drive.The knowledgeable ranger and tracker will enthral you with stories about the medicinal properties of plants, local beliefs regarding the wildlife and fascinating facts regarding the animals.

Shumbalala is situated within the Thornybush Game Reserve and is approximately 50km (30min) from Hoedspruit. Scheduled flights fly daily to Hoedpsruit, and from here guests are transferred to the Lodge. Chartered flights can be arranged directly to the lodge airstrip.
