Jackalberry Lodge is a simple and authentic bush lodge situated in the Thornybush Game Reserve. The towering Drakensberg Mountains provide a majestic backdrop for this 10 bedded rustic camp.If you are looking for spectacular views, understated comfort and ethnic ambience that blends harmoniously with nature, Jackalberry is ideal.
Jackalberry Lodge is named after the beautiful Jackaberry tree that occurs widely in the bushveld. It is just one of the fascinating trees and shrubs that allows the bushveld to support such a wide variety of animal and insect life.

The camp can accommodate up to ten people in a family suite, a luxury suite and three double chalets all with air-conditioning and unique en-suite semi-open air bathrooms under deep African-style thatch. It has a small air-conditioned conference facility for executive think-tank getaways, and the entire lodge can be booked to ensure privacy. Children of all ages are welcome At the end of the day, a hearty bushveld dinner is taken at the open boma next to the pool where one can relax by the crackling campfire, listening to the night sounds of Africa as the animals come to drink at the floodlit waterhole.

Jackalberry : Game Viewing & Bush Walks

The bush around the lodge teems with game. More than 60 species of wildlife can be found in the immediate vicinity and lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino, elephant, hyena and cheetah are all common sights
Jackalberry is also a paradise for bird-watchers. More than 280 species have been recorded at Jackalberry and any birdwatcher will be fascinated by the sounds, colours and habits of the birdlife here. A sure sign that spring has come to Jackalberry is when the piercing cries of the Wahlbergs eagles begin to drift down over the bush after months of absence.

No fewer than ten eagles, three falcon and five vulture species have been recorded in the area, as well as a host of other raptors. At nightfall, by spotlight, keep an eye open for the shining eyes of the lesser bushbabies as they leap from tree to tree, the deliberate pacing of a civet searching for fruit, the sight of a bad tempered porcupine shuffling along and if you are very lucky, the lumbering aardvark out for a night's ant and termite hunting.

Jackalberry Lodge is situated within the Thornybush Game Reserve and is approximately 50km (30min) from Hoedspruit. Scheduled flights fly daily to Hoedpsruit, and from here guests are transferred to the Lodge. Chartered flights can be arranged directly to the lodge airstrip.
