About Djuma Vuyatela Lodge

Vuyatela - meaning, "come and visit again" - is an exclusive lodge that has broken the mould of traditional game lodges and is the pride of Djuma Game Reserve. The chalets, with private deck, pool and detached sitting room all reflect local architecture. Builders have used corrugated iron and mud to achieve an authentic effect without sacrificing luxury in any way. The cultural theme also runs through activities. After morning game-drive guests may accompany their Shangaan guide to his nearby village, where they will have the opportunity of interacting with his family and friends in a very authentic and contemporary African environment.

Vuyatela is an expression of modern South African culture. Each of the eight chalets or kayas is secluded in African bush. Each of the chalets at Vuyatela is a collection of buildings joined to each other. The private lounge is separated from the bedroom by a beautiful Teak deck, which ends at the private plunge pool. The view from the Teak deck is into pristine African Savanna with its bounty of animal life You will notice that each of the buildings that make-up your chalet, or "Kaya" (Shangaan word for house), is built in a different technique. Some of the "Kaya’s" have abstract patterns painted on the walls and others have even domestic scenes painted on them.

Djuma Vuyatela : Wildlife and Conservation

Djuma Vuyatela’s principal attraction is the astonishing diversity and abundance of wildlife species that inhabit the reserve. Mammalian species alone number 147, including 27 ungulates (hoofed mammals) and 4 large carnivores. Many of these spectacular animals are likely to be spotted even on a short visit. There are also many lesser-known animals that most visitors find fascinating to behold, from exotic reptiles and amphibians, to colourful and bizarre insects. And for those with a botanical bent, there are hundreds of species of trees and shrubs (not to mention the enormous variety of grasses and other plant life).

In addition to its wealth of biological diversity, there is something else that many visitors soon discover - something they commonly say is equally impressive, and of enormous value. In Djuma Vuyatela there exists an atmosphere of undisturbed nature - of true wilderness - which is difficult to define and describe, but can readily be perceived by the discerning traveller in those rare places where it can still be encountered.

Djuma Vuyatela Lodge is located in the Sabi Sands Game Reserve, this reserve has a common boundary with the Kruger National Park. The lodge is a 5 -6 hour drive from Johannesburg. Alternatively direct flights direct from Johannesburg arrive daily, and scheduled flight to Hoedspruit Airport operate daily. Rhino Africa can organise flights and transfers on your behalf.
