Djuma Bush Lodge

Djuma Bush Lodge Description

Located in the Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve Djuma Bush Lodge is a traditional bush lodge and has maintained its self as a down to earth lodge, much like many lodges used to before plunge pools, cellars and bush spas were invented! Bush Lodge is primarily a family lodge and comprises of eight thatched chalets all with en-suite rooms, air-conditioning, overhead fans and mosquito nets. The main building is an impressive open thatched construction with two viewing decks. It overlooks the pool next to the watering hole.

Bush Lodge has operated for more than ten years and is famous for its easy, friendly family atmosphere. A reputation over the past ten years for a relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere encourages guests to truly relax and become one of the Djuma family . Lunch is a simple affair: with hot and cold dishes, and afternoon tea includes fresh bakes. Sumptuous dinners are either served in the dining room or under the African sky, around a roaring fire in the boma.
The pool is in a small grove of Tamboti trees and is always delightfully cool. There are two viewing decks over the water-hole. Morning safaris start early so as not to miss the magic of the African sunrise and most animals are active at this time of day.

Djuma Bush Lodge : A Typical Day on Safari

At 05h00 you are woken by knocking on the doors (only if one wishes of course !)  Walk through to guest area and enjoy morning tea and muffins with your ranger. Your ranger will try and encourage you and the other guests to be ready to leave by 05h45 to catch the sunrise and animal viewing. By the time you return from the morning game drive all the morning staff are at camp, where there breakfast is ready from 08h30 – 09h00. After breakfast enjoy a walk depending on your personal fitness levels it is normally ± 1 to 1½ hours.

The game rangers offer fauna and flora lectures and magnificent rock art viewing.  Each topic is discussed and guests are welcome to set the pace as they wish. There is of course always the good possibility of game viewing on foot.  On returning to the lodge, one can relax in the room or wallow in the pool before a scrumptious relaxed lunch. The big game drive starts at 16h30, with coolbox sundowners and snacks. The ranger stops to watch the sun going down in Africa. You return back to Djuma Bush Lodge at 20h30 – 21h00  where dinner is served at the boma or in the dining area.
