Rissington Inn

Rissington Inn General Information

Rissington Inn, just outside Hazyview en route to the Kruger Park, embodies all that should be preserved of the age-old innkeepers' traditions: a fire to warm your saddle-weary derrière, a long draft to sooth your dust-addled throat, a sprinkling of charming country folk to enquire of your business, a rich and hearty meal to sooth the soul, a piping hot shower and a king's bed to revive the spirit. Chris and his merry team have created a country welcome in the Mpumalanga town of Hazyview that wins hearts and awards year in and year out.

Surrounded by 10 acres of colourful garden, Rissington Inn has 16 rooms ranging from a diminutive guide's room to a spacious double-volume suite complete with private pool and outdoor shower. Most have extra beds; all have en suite bathrooms with delightful free-standing Victorian baths, verandas and private entrances. As is only right of a country inn, life at Rissington Inn revolves around the bar and restaurant, which open onto a veranda covered by the thick thatched roof and overlooking the swimming pool, garden and Hazyview valley.

Rissington Inn – the innkeepers secret stew

A meal at Rissington Inn, as the locals will advise, is an event unto itself. The small à la carte restaurant, suitably convivial, produces genuine vegetarian dishes – not just a plate of today's side orders; interesting game dishes including blesbok and crocodile; seafood and fish specials; warming South African curries; a baked beef fillet signature dish and some classic sweets. Diner's Club gave the wine list a gold star no doubt for its excellent meal pairings and the affordable range of vintages; the bar is stocked with a good selection of malts, cognacs, liqueurs and cigars that were clearly chosen by someone who smokes them.
