Heysbrook Country Lodge Description

Heysbrook Country Lodge is conveniently located on the main N4 just east of Waterval Onder on the road to Nelspruit in Mpumalanga province.

Heysbrook Country Lodge is an exclusive 20 bed country lodge and boasts 10 well appointed and spacious double suites each decorated and equipped to the highest standard. Each room is en suite with fireplaces in the bedrooms and in most bathrooms, mini bar, private deck and a double outdoor shower with personal view of the river or mountain.

The flanking kitchen is an integral part of the lodge, providing one with homely atmosphere (and a chat to the resident chef, Coetzee). On account of the cold highveld air that flows down the valley in winter, there are wood burning fireplaces in all rooms. The lodge has spectacular views in all directions, up and down the valley as well as across towards the mountains framed against a setting sun.

Heysbrook Country Lodge is positioned on 1300 hectares of privately owned spectacular Mpumulanga escarpment, just 2.5 hours from Johannesburg and is not only home to the wiley brown trout but also to a remarkable variety of birds and small game.

Between delicious gourmet meals Heysbrook Country Lodge will occupy every moment, hot days may best be spent in a natural rock pool whilst early mornings and afternoons may bring some of South Africa's rich history within your grasp. There are several walks, one of which could be in search of the last remaining Long Tom cannon reported to have been left on Heysbrook. Undercover parking is provided out of sight of the lodge ensuring that the complete absence of any indication of the modern world is continued. Distractions will occur, though they will be from the shrill call of a kingfisher, the splash of a rising trout or a bark from a visiting Bushbuck. Activities include hiking, exploring or fly fishing.

Heysbrook Lodge is an exclusive country lodge set in a secluded valley of 1 300 hectares (which becomes a gorge) on the Mpumalanga escarpment. The entrance is directly off the N4 highway one kilometre east of Waterval Onder, below the Elands falls and the NZAZM tunnel in the Elands Valley. Conveniently situated exactly half way between Johannesburg and Maputo, in Mozambique, Heysbrook Lodge is a comfortable two hours drive from Johannesburg International airport and forty-five minutes from Nelspruit International Airport.
