Olivers Restaurant and Lodge DescriptionGemütlichkeit has no English equivalent. Perhaps because the English-speaking people of this world spend too much time outdoors. Gemütlichkeit takes the concept of cosiness, wraps it in a blanket of belonging, and creates a cheery welcome that could only have evolved in the snow-covered mountains of northern Europe. For a more elegant illustration of the concept, visit Oliver's Lodge in the mountains of Mpumalanga. Oliver and Tanja Ruf have all sorts of international hotelier's qualifications. Beginning in Salzburg and ending in South Africa - or so we hope – their experiences span centuries of cultural evolution. While the somewhat functional building doesn't exactly compete with the romantic age-old castles of Austria or the log-cabin chic of the Swiss Alps, the welcome, service and charming interior are fresh and reviving. The lodge looks over the White River valley and a splendid parklands golf course. A short drive away is the Kruger Park and all around you are mountains, rivers, waterfalls and panoramic views.
