Get to grips with this massive fracture in the Earth's crust that runs the length of Kenya with some of the world's most mindblowing landscapes!

Where to Go and What to Do

The Great Rift Valley stretches the length of Kenya from its northern border with Sudan down past Nairobi to Lake Magadi, on the border with Tanzania. It is a huge area and encompasses much of the country, therefore getting there very much depends on where exactly you want to go within the Rift Valley.

Lake Naivasha, Hell's Gate National Park and Mount Longonot are all within 100km of Nairobi so they can be reached in under two hours by road or a short 30 minute flight from Wilson Airport near Nairobi. It will take slightly longer to reach Lake Nakuru though again you can jet in here on an internal flight and take a short road transfer. Lake Bogoria, Lake Baringo and Lake Turkana are far further north and will take a fair few hours by road.
