Less than a hundred years ago a decision to locate a train station here led to the foundation of what would become Nairobi, now the largest city in East Africa and Kenya's 'safari city'. The name "Nairobi" comes from the Maasai phrase
Enkare Nyirobi, which translates to "the place of cool waters". But these days it is more popularly know as the "Green City in the Sun", a reference to its many parks and tree filled open spaces.
