Mara Sopa Lodge Information

The Mara Sopa Lodge is just outside the Oloolaimutia entrance to Kenya's Masai Mara National Reserve. The hotel has 90 en suite rooms, which include a handful of suites and a honeymoon suite as well, and they are built Maasai-style with rustic thatch roofs, and round walls. The rooms are spread out along the hilltop and each has a private balcony with a view over the Oloolaimutia Valley, game-studded grassy plains and gentle rolling hills that stretch as far as the eye can see.

The living area - comprising a large restaurant, lounge, swimming pool and sun terrace - has an interesting retro-ethnic décor that could be either ultra modern or well-preserved depending on your viewpoint. Dinners are served buffet-style with a wide selection of dishes – including some fine vegetable curries. Entertainment within the hotel includes hyena and bushbaby feeding, Maasai dancing and a pseudo Maasai village.

The Mara Sopa may not blow you away with luxury and exclusivity but the Masai Mara Game Reserve will certainly make your East Africa safari something to remember. Regarded as Kenya's best game-viewing destination, the Masai Mara offers year-round game viewing with frequent sighting of the predators, Big Five, and of course the spectacular wildebeest and zebra migration. And even if you have to dip into your son's college fund to afford it, you must do the balloon safari and champagne breakfast – it's well worth the money and the early morning.
