Offbeat Meru Camp | Information

Offbeat Meru Camp is a traditional safari camp within the Bisanadi National Reserve, just outside Meru National Park. It is designed to give guests an off the beaten track experience (hence the name!) in one of Kenya's re-emerging wilderness areas. Meru National Park was badly affected by poaching in the 1980s and 90s but it has benefitted from an extensive relocation and conservation programme. Now the Park is home to the Big Five again, including both black and white Rhino, as well as plains game, mammals and birdlife in abundance.

Accommodation consists of 6 spacious canvas tents (3 doubles and 3 twins) set alongside the Bisanadi River. Watch animals as they come to drink from the banks, and wake up each morning to the sights and sounds of the bush. Each tent offers a classic camping experience with the utmost in luxury, opening directly into the bush with uninterrupted views of the virgin wilderness. There is an en-suite bathroom out back with hot bucket showers, wash basins and flush loos, and the lighting is all solar-powered. Kick back in the lounge tent between drives with its comfortable couches or savour an ice-cold drink from the bar. Cool down in the sparkling swimming pool and wine and dine in the lounge or under the stars round the campfire, with culinary fare of the highest order.

NB: This camp is closed from 01 April - 14 June and 01 Nov - 14 Dec.

Explore the Meru National Park!

Less visited than the tourist centres of the Masai Mara and Serengeti, Meru National Park offers guests an off the beaten track experience. Thriving once again, it now plays host to the Big Five, Zebra, Reticulated Giraffe, Gerenuk and Lesser Kudu, Eland and over 280 species of birds. The landscape varies from savannah to riverine forest and swamps, with 13 rivers forming the lifeblood of the park. Relax in your armchair as animals gather along the Bisanadi River or head out on game drives by day or night, and enjoy bush meals and sundowner drinks. Fly fishing is also an option as well as guided walks, or you could just relax beside the swimming pool with an ice-cold cocktail. The choice is yours.
