The Artists House Information

Artists House is located in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley a short drive from Hermanus. Artists House was the home of well known South African Artist Gail Catlin.. She designed both the structure and interiors, which are filled with fabrics, sculptures, barks and rocks, all highly prized collectors' items acquired on her travels through Africa. Views of the mountains, valley and rivers blend into the bedroom through large windows.

Natural cotton sheets and down duvets on either twin single beds or queen beds ensure that you have a restful night. All bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms with either a bath or shower and these too have views of the beautiful surrounds. Food is a real treat at Artists House, using fresh farm produce, home baked breads, fish from local waters and wines from the Hemel en Aarde, fresh "Classic Country Cuisine" meals are prepared for guests.

Gail Catlin who is the owner of Artists House was the first artist in the world to exploit Liquid Crystal as the basis for her artistic creation.
This highly sensitive, scientific, substance responds immediately to changing intensities of temperature and light with dramatic shifts in colour, reflectivity and sheen. Gail’s work has generated her a reputation as one of South Africa's most nimble and inventive technical innovators, and most vibrantly expressive artists. Her work is represented in all the major public art museums and corporate collections in South Africa, and the artist has been invited to exhibit in France, Russia, England, Germany and America.
