Adley House InformationStarting life as a feather baron’s palace in the early 1900s, Adley House is now a guest house lovingly restored and run by Oudtshoorn locals Hilda and Pieter Retief. The house retains the classic features of the period: large grounds, well-established evergreen garden with enormous trees, corrugated iron roof, yellowwood floors and a wrap-around stoep (verandah) with broekie-lace (‘panty lace’) eaves. The 14 large en suite rooms have an inviting farmhouse feel with soft rugs over polished wood floors, fluffy duvets and wicker-weave chairs. The rooms are comfortably appointed with air-conditioning, satellite TV, mini bars, tea and coffee, overhead fans and electric blankets. Food is the soul of life in the Karoo and Hilda bakes fresh bread and evening barbecues – on request – feature local specialities of lamb, ostrich and springbok under the clear skies of a warm evening. |
