Shamwari Riverdene Lodge is a mixture of elegance and stylish colonialism set in the beautiful surrounds of the African wilderness. The Lodge sleeps a total of 18 guests. All 9 rooms are fully air-conditioned, all feature television, telephone and a small lounge area. Each en-suite sandstone bathroom has a 'his' and 'hers' vanity basin, separate shower and bath. Private balconies lead onto the attractive landscaped gardens.

The main Riverdene Lodge has two elegantly furnished casual lounges and a glorious sunroom. The magnificent rim flow swimming pool entices guests to relax, restore their energies and soak up the African sunshine. The lounge opens onto a spacious outdoor barbecue area. As with all the lodges at Shamwari, guests receive personal attention from their assigned rangers for the duration of their stay and game drives are a unique and inspiring expereince. The boma and private dining area has awesome views overlooking the Bushmans River.

Game viewing in Shamwari Reserve

Shamwari Riverdene Lodge is ideally situated in the world renowned Shamwari Game Reserve, a 25000 hectare malaria free wilderness in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. Game drives in open Landrovers are an especially rewarding experience at Shamwari as the reserve has a major focus on conservation and rangers are thus well-informed and extremely knowledgeable.

The rangers are in two-way communication with each other at all times, so on any day they know where the game is, and how to find elusive animals such as the rare Black Rhino. To ensure the lasting sustainability of the reserve as an ecosystem rich in biodiversity, Shamwari’s ecology department strives to protect and where necessary to improve the environment. The Wildlife Department has received the Global Nature Fund Award for Best Conservation Practice.
