About Nguni River Lodge

Nguni River Lodge is situated within the boundaries of the Addo Elephant National Park in the Eastern Cape. Nestled between the majestic Zuurberg Mountians and the pristine floodplain of the nearby river, the views from the lodge and indeed from every room are of the highest quality. The game viewing at Nguni is of no lesser quality than the views and is in fact some of the best on offer for the entire area.

Choose to view the abundant wildlife from the back of an open topped landrover or on your feet on a guided bush walk, you could also do it from horseback. Which ever method you choose you will be accompanied by a friendly knowledgeable guide, who will be able to find and show you things you never would have seen.

After you have worked up an appetite, why not try your hand at some African cooking in the open interactive kitchen. Here the resident chefs cooks up superb African fusion meals, with or without your help! And after all that, feel free to retire to your private well appointed room, which are decorated individually and named after the Nguni cattle variants which give the lodge its named. Each room features both an open stone bath and outdoor shower, as well as a private plunge pool and a warm cosy fireplace. Each room has it's own individual flair and is decorated and named after a specific variation of the Nguni cow.

Nguni River Lodge: Location and Service

The Addo Elephant National Park was proclaimed in 1931 and today this finely tuned ecosystem is home to over 400 elephants. This makes the Addo Park the most concentrated elephant reserve in Africa thus giving one a good chance of experiencing some of the best elephant viewing in the world. Apart from elephants there are also lion, hyena, black rhino, buffalo and various antelope species.
After widespread hunting in the 1800's and an extermination program in the 1920's the Addo National Elephant Park was proclaimed in 1931 as a sanctuary for the remaining 11 elephants.

This herd has build up to over 400 making it one of the densest populations of the giant herbivores in the world. The reserve is also home to a wide range of other species including lion, buffalo, black rhinoceros, eland, kudu, red hartebeest, zebra, other smaller antelope species, more than 165 bird species as well as being the last refuge of the flightless dung beetle.
