Kwandwe Private Game Reserve consists of two luxurious lodges : 9 room Kwandwe Lodge and the smaller 6 room Kwandwe Ecca Lodge. The main lodge at Kwandwe Private Game Reserve is set along the lush banks of the Great Fish River which are studded with euphorbia and aloes, red –leaved rock fig, sneezewood and Karoo Boerbean Trees. Kwandwe Lodge has spectacular guest areas, the thatched roof soars grandly overhead, adorned with imposing chandeliers. Large fireplaces with massive stone chimneys cast warmth and light over the richly woven rugs, yellowwood kists and wardrobes, hand stitched damask linen and the antique china, pewter and silver typical of an 1820 settler farmhouse.

Retire to one of the nine luxurious suites where you will find a tranquility. Swirling ceiling fans and airconditioning provide pleasant temperatures in the rooms and the en suite bathroom with bath and indoor and outdoor shower feature matchless view over the wild yet gentle landscape. Floor to ceiling doors fold back to reveal uninterrupted wilderness vistas. Each suite also features a spacious thatched deck and private plunge pool with river deck terrace. Stylish regional cuisine is served on the private decks, in the candlelight dining room, on the main deck, or in the boma under a starlit sky. Get to grips with the Big Five

Kwandwe’s skilled rangers and trackers lead guests on twice daily game drives tracking the wide variety of animal and bird species, and exploring the four distinct habitats harbouring chartacteristic fauna and flora. These interpretive game – drives will bring you close to the Big Five and other magnificent animals in the Reseve. In the evenings a local historian entrances guests with his tales of the region’s rich history. Guests at Kwandwe can request thrilling nocturnal adventures exclusive to the Eastern Cape. You depart on an interpretative afternoon game drive that extends into the night. An exhilarating array of nocturnal wildlife is tracked by spotlight, including elusive aardvark, aardwolf , bat eared fox and lion.
