Kwandwe Private Game Reserve consists of three luxurious lodges : 9 room Kwandwe Lodge and the smaller 6 room Kwandwe Ecca Lodge as well as the Uplands Homestead. Kwandwe Ecca Lodge opened in December 2003. Innovative , stylish and intimate it embodies a ‘ funk meets futuristic farmhouse’ ambience. Emblazoned with giant Warhol like prints, retro light fittings and shades and olive,rust and burnt orange , it’s witty, welcoming and beautifully appointed. Situated on rolling slopes overlooking a beautiful acacia valley with a backdrop of steep shale cliffs, the views from Kwandwe Ecca Lodge are breathtaking. Kwandwe Ecca Lodge consists of six suites. These suites are inventive and feature wood panelling interspersed with mesh cover stone gabion walls, and pagoda style and corrugated iron roofs.

The suites are extremely spacious, with luxuriously proportioned living areas, bedrooms and bathrooms furnished in a style complementary to the guest areas. Glass doors slide back leaving gauze doors to admit welcome cooling breezes. Wraparound wooden deck lead from the sitting rooms and bedrooms, and feature an outdoor shower with galvanised bath base and stone wall. The original trees have been allowed to grow through the decks, and tall clay pots cluster on the decks , planted with cacti and succulents indigenous to Kwandwe. A rim flow lap pool is lined with shaded decks and teak sundecks. The kitchen is modern, minimalist and open plan, allowing guests an interactive experience of Ecca’s Pan African cuisine served with the freshest of farm ingredients.

Kwandwe’s skilled rangers and trackers lead guests on twice daily game drives tracking the wide variety of animal and bird species, and exploring the four distinct habitats harbouring chartacteristic fauna and flora. These interpretive game – drives will bring you close to the Big Five and other magnificent animals in the Reseve. In the evenings a local historian entrances guests with his tales of the region’s rich history. Guests at Kwandwe can request thrilling nocturnal adventures exclusive to the Eastern Cape. You depart on an interpretative afternoon game drive that extends into the night. An exhilarating array of nocturnal wildlife is tracked by spotlight, including elusive aardvark, aardwolf , bat eared fox and lion.
