Queens Hotel

Queens Hotel Information

Queen’s Hotel is truly one of the grand old dames of South Africa. Built during the peak of the feather boom in 1880, the building has changed little and is the third oldest hotel in the country. Which is why the colonial splendour of the grounds, the décor and the furniture fit like a lace glove. Dainty off-whites and subtle mushroom tones offset the prized antique pieces and period-style furniture.

The hotel has 40 rooms and all have air conditioning, local television, clock radios, direct-dial telephones and coffee and tea stations. The deluxe rooms have separate showers and baths and the rest have bath/shower combos. The courtyard is a lush enclosure with a sparkling pool in the centre; Café Brule is an upbeat coffee shop at the front of the hotel that serves light meals and refreshments; the lounge is comfortable with a log fireplace and an accessible bar and there is a curio shop and beauty salon if you can’t get enough of pampering yourself.

Queen's Hotel: new cuisine in a timeless setting

While Queen's Hotel is the third oldest in South Africa, the kitchen has moved with the times. Offering fine dining with many splendid South African and Karoo specialities, the á la carte menu includes the region's famous lamb, ostrich and game meats.  The décor is formal with crisp linen, chinking silver and clinking crystal while the service escaped the starch box and is efficient, discreet and friendly. The wine list is long and impressive.
